Steel Homes Revisited

Hi Forum,

For Tattercreek and all that were interested in this subject, I just got an email from the company we were talking about. It has to do with an upcoming seminar. I also put a link to their "media" page which has some interesting info and video. I have to say that I get more and more interested in what they are up to as there seems to be such protection and ease of care in their product. Others have any feedback on them?

Dear Steel Home Builder,

You are invited to attend our Kodiak Steel Homes® Training Day and Seminar on September 26, 2009 in North Little Rock, Arkansas. We are not selling dealerships or franchises; we just want to introduce you to our company, answer your questions, and let you watch us build our Bungalow model.

Here’s what you will see and learn:

* Start to finish construction steps
* Steel Homes benefits
* Appraising/Financing Answers
* Steel versus wood construction costs
* Energy Efficiency Comparisons
* Floor Plan Options

You need to pre-register, as space is limited. The seminar cost is $35 per person ($50 for couples) and includes all seminar materials, lunch, and refreshments. To reserve your seating space, call today. 800-793-9185.

Thanks,

John House
President & CEO

P.S. We now have Cost Estimate Worksheets available for each our models that show the total material cost of that home. Ask your Product Advisor for details.

Hi Forum,

It has been a while since we looked at the steel home issue and CV. I just got another email from one outfit that is fairly local and has some good info on its website. You might want to check them out again as they have a demo going on and a sale. All I can say is that this way of building is of serious interest to me. As with all things, it is important to do Better Business checks on any of these guys, but this one was pretty good the last time that I checked.

Hi Forum-

I have looked very seriously at the steel homes, but find they are still out of range for me. Long story, but I'm still looking for an alternative for my lot on Delaware Drive. It is in the section of Ojibway Unit 1 that allows for a 600 sq ft structure. I have been looking at cabins from the BIGOBUILDINGS.COM that are factory built but shipped and installed on your slab, etc. They are complete cabins . As I understand from the ordinances, it states any structure- erected, moved on to, shall be a minimum of 600 sq ft. ( I am assuming heated and cooled- excluding porches). If anyone has knowledge as to the suitability of this type of structure and whether it would be allowed, please let me know.
Thanks,
Barb

Hi Tatercreek,

You have a nice link there. I am with you on the issue of erection costs. I will say that an erector that they recommended and which I had some contact impressed me. They even do "turnkey." Also, you may have not visited the steel home site recently. They have added some "cabins" and "cottages." Your link looks like a solid outfit. I have also found some interesting stuff on ebay. Thanks for your input.

I'd buy a house already built that somebody is selling and add your efficiencies when you buy it. better deal now than building new if you ask me

EMA,

You sure are right about costs. If someone does want to build for whatever reason, I would say that the open floor plan of these steel houses plus their long term strength in an area subject to storms, no termite issues, and near zero maintenance will make them desirable for many. What I really want to do is go to one of the seminars and see on built. If anyone has gone or seen one of these homes personally, it would be great to get your take on things. Clearly, the cheapest way to go is slab construction which is difficult terrain to find in the Village. That is the one issue IMHO.
